My Thoughts on Food: Tofu

So I’m taking my first “official” post to blab and vent about food.

Now, as a vegetarian, I am quite willing to try and be adventurous when it comes to food.

But there is one exception.

Recently, I found a recipe on Pinterest that looked amazing. I read the recipe and felt my mouth drooling slightly. Accompanied with the recipe were several, beautiful photographs of the recipe.

I’m calling bullshit!

I’m sorry, but Tofu has to be the WORST… thing (I refuse to call it food) I’ve ever had the misfortune of having in my mouth. And trust me, I have had some pretty disgusting foods, for example humous pasta but that’s a whole separate blog post entirely!!

When looking at the recipe, everything seemed like a winner. But I forgot. I forgot that no matter what you to do tofu, no matter how much you marinate it, no matter how much you squish it and drain it, it still tastes absolutely awful!

My brother described it like this:

“It’s like somebody froze yoghurt and then somehow coated it in sponge and attempted to fry it.”

And I have to say, this pretty much hits the nail on the head. Tofu has the texture of slime. It feels like slugs on your tongue. The worst part is that after 3 hours of marinating , it still lasted of absolutely nothing but somehow managed to taste vile at the same time.

I’m sorry to all the Vegans and Vegetarians that swear by it, but just no!

So I’m warning you all, don’t be pulled in by all the artificial, staged photos on Pinterest trying to entice you, Tofu will always be Tofu. Disgusting, gelatinous cubes of flavourless slime.

Yup, that’s me up there, Drinking a Cocktail in Cuba!

Welcome to my blog. Here you will find a lot of things. Mainly, the musings of a 22 year old, vegetarian. So know that I’ve scared everyone off, probably best I introduce myself then, eh? I have the attention span of a squirrel

My name is Victoria – but you probably all ready figured that out.

I currently live in Scotland. I’m 22 years old, a graduate, currently in employment. (Yawwwwn, I know… I’m boring) I live to travel, but don’t have the funds to do so! I am a vegetarian and like to cook, I may post some of my home made creations (thank you Pinterest!)

I also have a slight obsession with Makeup but can’t contour to save myself. I also enjoy music, so expect some very dodgy covers of my favourite songs uploaded – get the earplugs ready!

As you can tell, I’m just a smidge sarcastic… ok… I’m fluent in sarcasm but that just comes with being Scottish, it’s our second language don’t you know?

Anyway,

I think that just about sums me up. If you’re still reading this then well… I don’t really know what to think! Most people tend to stop listening after about two words.

My Sunday Roast

So it's a Sunday…

And a Sunday in Britain is not complete without a Sunday roast!!

Mine is a bit different – being a veggie and all that jazz.

First of all, scrap the chicken. I'm using Quorn Chicken Fillets cooked with chopped courgettes in a thick veggie gravy. Once it's cooked, I'll chuck in some green beans for a few minutes then serve.

Next instead of mash, I'm having roasted courgettes and butternut squash, seasoned with olive oil, garlic, a little bit of vegetable seasoning and a dash of paprika!

Pretty lazy cooking today as everything is chucked in one pot and left to boil, while the veggies roast away in the oven.

I've had a lot of work to do today so just wanted a quick dinner.

So there you have it, my ten minute Sunday roast.
